Lecture-discussion model is an instructional model designed to help students understand organized bodies of knowledge.
LESSON PLANS AND REFLECTIONS
The first lesson plan that I found for lecture-discussion was a lesson on comparing and contrasting. This lesson introduces these terms to students telling them how comparing something is telling their similarities and contrasting something is telling their differences. I liked that the lesson uses Venn Diagrams to explain this concept. I think that this lesson plan follows the lecture-discussion model because it contains the five phases. If I were to use this lesson in my classroom, I would give the students multiple examples of things that compare and contrast so that they would have a firm understanding of with it meant.
The second lesson plan that I found for lecture-discussion was a lesson on dictionaries. I thought that this was a good lesson because it taught the students about a traditional dictionary and a newer online dictionary. It taught how they are similar and different. I also like that the teacher incorporated the students spelling words for the week and had the student look up the spelling words in both dictionaries. This lesson plan matched the model fairly well with the comparison of the two different dictionaries. If I were to use this lesson in my classroom, I would have more discussion about about the words and the dictionaries. |

REFLECTION ON IN-CLASS PRESENTATION
Elementary Lecture-Discussion Implementation
- The elementary group that taught a lecture-discussion lesson did a very good job teaching. I thought that both group members felt very comfortable infront of the students, and they were very knowledgeable of their content area. I thought that they follow the model very well, and I really like the throwing of the ball. That was very engaging for the students. I also liked that they had the student in a "U' shape around the room.
- The secondary group that taught a lecture-discussion lesson also did a good job teaching the students. I felt that the group was very well prepared for the lesson, and they knew the material that they were teaching very well. I also really like the 4-corners activity that they did. I thought that this activity was very engaging for the students, and it was a good way to get them up out of their desk. The only thing that I would have changed would be equal talking/lecture parts. At some points I thought they needed to feed off of each other and the students.
