Inquiry, SOMETIMES called scientific inquiry, is a teaching model designed to give students experience with the SCIENTIFIC method.
LESSON PLANS AND REFLECTIONS
The first lesson plan that I found for the inquiry model was a science lesson on soil types. To complete this lesson the students had prior knowledge about the different types of soils. I like that at the beginning of this lesson the teacher gave a list of material needed and a planning procedure. This lesson plan deviates from the model slightly because there is a discussion in the middle of the lesson; however I did like that it led to a lot of student engagement. The students were trying to figure out what kind of soil was on a boot of a murdered man. I hope to use this lesson plan in my classroom because it is different from a typical science lesson.
The second lesson plan that I found for the inquiry model was a lesson about preserving the rainforest. Students are asked to further explore the different life forms in the rainforest. This lesson plan follows the model fairly well, and it would be a simple lesson to implement because it comes with very clear instructions. If I were to use this lesson in my classroom I would find books or other resources that have different pictures and summaries of the plants and animals in the rainforest. This would allow students to hypothesize more on why it is important to preserve the rainforest. |

REFLECTION ON IN-CLASS PRESENTATION
Elementary Inquiry Implementation
- The elementary group that implemented the inquiry model in the classroom did a very good job of staying to the model and working together as a group. They had multiple materials that were there set up on the different desk in groups of four. The group did a good job of planning the various groups around the classroom and how the materials needed to be displayed on the desk. They planned this so that the students did not get distracted before they were suppose to use the materials. They adjusted well to the students by slowing down and making sure that every student had time to finish the specific steps. They were also interpreted by P.E., and they handled that interruption well.
