The INTEGRATIVE model is an instructional model designed to help students develop a deep understanding of organized bodies of knowledge while simultaneously practicing their critical-thinking skills.
LESSON PLANS AND REFLECTIONS
The first lesson plan that I found that matches the integrative model was about slavery. At the beginning of the lesson the teacher reads a historical fiction story to the students. At the end of the story, the teacher ask the students to compare and contrast what they parts of the story they thought were real and not real. Then its asked what they learned about slavery from the book. The students are then asked to conduct research on slavery to see what is real and what is not. During the research the students were to look at the cause-and-effects of slavery. This lesson differs from the integrative as described in the textbook because the teacher started with the reading of the book about slavery. If I were to use this lesson in my classroom, I would have the students think more hypothetically.
The second lesson plan that I found for the integrative model is a lesson on the contributions that Ancient Egypt and China made to world history. The students start out by comparing and contrasting Ancient Egypt and China, then they record their answers. The students then think hypothetically and how the world today would differ. This lesson follows the integrative model perfectly. I think that this would be a good lesson to use in my classroom. I like how the students had to think critically about how the world today would be affected if it was not for Ancient Egypt and China. |
REFLECTION ON IN-CLASS PRESENTATION
Elementary Integrative Implementation
- The group that implemented the integrative model in the classroom did a very good job on planning the lesson. I feel that they had a clear understanding of the model and had a plan of what and how they wanted to teach the lesson. I do feel that with young children if you are going to bring in real life objects then you need to pass it around to all the students or you need to have enough for all students to hold and see. This was one thing that I would have changed, because it distracted the students during the lesson. I would also have picked a better/different worksheet that was easier for the students to understand. Overall, I think that they did a good job with the grade level and model.
